RIZOME

video installation by FUSA MIRACLE & JOÃO Ó

DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY

AUTOCAD - computer assisted drawing and other instruments used in the construction of architectonic spaces are an acquired fact in a urbanity where the

virtual lines (translated in a algorithmic calculus of complex geometries involved in a operative system orientated by three perpendicular axles denominated X,Y, Z) started to manipulate the true junction of the collective imaginary.

Digital technology in the computer era brought a fundamental change in the way we perceive the world as we started to see it in computer terms.

Based on this paradigm, our project is searching for a new point of viewing the way the digitalization of our mentalities explores more comprehensive concepts that find correspondence in totalitarianizing theories - rhizome - over a world that will always be subjected to more than just one definition.

In this sense, digital technology becomes a catalyst that tends to revolutionize the existing urban reality demonstrating investigation probabilities that enable to appropriate parallel realities in a fusion of multidisciplinary thoughts.

Thus, we understand the city in the deleuzian way in terms of “field“, a network of processes, “a complex machine, consisting of multidirectional processes of

connection, and separation, of layering, enmeshing and cutting, which leads to ever different formations“, in which the form of the projected becomes indistinct from the thought that produces it.

Our role as mediators was to incorporate both realities  real and virtual  to take advantage of a dualistic approximation that exposes the specific and unspecific matters conjugal problem.

Intersection planes, non-coplanar surfaces, lapidated spaces, alternative paths tangential extensions, reflexes that populate the forms with luminal-spatial nuances, interstitial connections that embark in perpetual movements, etc, are part of the unstopping search for a linguistic continuity that results in a epiphany of digital phenomena. This virtualization of reality opens a new conceptual path in the rhizomatic process metamorphosis form.

The multiple surficial realities confluence created from progressive conversions, going from the digital image to the analogical and then returning to the digital, resulted in a visual plasticity that intends to speculate about the rhizomes conceptual generatrices tangibility trough which the new cities manifest themselves.

The rhizome is an accumulation or dispersion of ligaments, without centre or hierarchical organization, it is a contingence of lines that, in several ways, reflects a “natural“ pattern of geo-organic development. It is the genesis that maintains all the paths open to evolve towards an adaptive epistemology.
